| | | Hi gang,
I have finally sent Greg the updated Contest page - not too bad, one week before I leave for the show, huh? But if we figure it out, & I believe if anyone can do it's, it's Greg, we will have the page updated very soon.
This will include URL's to both the 2006 Contest Registration Form & the very important Sound & Lighting Tech Specs Form.
Below are some random notes of importance for the 2006 Dawn Look-a-Like Contest entrants, as they occur to me.
VERY IMPORTANT: ALL contestants must check in with either Zeke or Cyndee backstage before they leave the contest area. You have to pick up your invitation to the after-contest party. Why? Because that's where you pick up the exclusive Dawn print, designed just for the contestants, that you get jsut for entering. Even if you're not in the mood for partying, swinging by & saying hi to the other contestants is fun, plus, you want your free print, right? The image for the 2006 Dawn Contest print is posted in the cup o'Joe.
A word about the audio part of your presentation, if you have one; contestants have lost out in the past to poor sound levels, etc. If you feel your audio or dramatic presentation might have complex issues, please tell the folks at registration when you drop your forms off. The earlier you drop off forms, the better. If they seem overwhelmed/unresponsive/confused, politely ask to talk with a backstage/sound tech person. Cat runs the backstage, she would know who to tell you who to ask for.
There is, as suggested there would be, a universal audio format. I know folks have used DVD's, cassettes, in the past. Now it will be CD's ONLY. Please label your CD clearly.
PLEASE GET BACKSTAGE EARLY. I'm just sayin'. Your overall experience will be better if you are calmly seated, touching up your makeup at 7 p.m., or getting your picture taken, rather than rushing in last-minute @ 7:30, needing to be shown what to do & where to be.
Stage direction should be better than in years previous. Cat seems like she will be a kickass backstage manager. I anticipate an even better experience for all you brave women entering this year.
In a nod to the surreal, we have two, not one, celebrity judges this year. The first is Mr. Tory Belleci, of the build team of Mythbusters. Tory is also as a prominent special-effects artist who's done work for ILM/Lucas, as well as lots of other movies. The other is a longtime actor, inventor & survivor, who was once once married to Ava Gardener, one of JML's main film inspirations for Dawn. Yes, I am indeed talking about America's biggest box-office draw between 1939-1941, Mr. Mickey Rooney.
Hope this is helpful to everyone. If you have any questions you need answered & think we can help, PLEASE POST THEM NO LATER THAN WED MORNING EARLY! We are all leaving early Thursday, so net access will be lost for a week as of early Wed.
Between writing the copy for the show, Emailing everyone, rewriting the contest page & now this, I have been in front of this machine since 10 am Wed. morning. Now, I fall down go boom. Hard.
As always, thanks for reading, & looking forward to seeing you who are going, in Atlanta, GA, in a week.
-- Ms. Eva

| | | Thing the first: The print is gorgeous. Absolutely fascinating. And given that we know people who are into another 'green fairy', they are gonna get a kick out of seeing this in our apartment.
Thing the second: Yay CD's! Yay tech possiblilites! Yay guest judges! Wow. Mickey Rooney. My grandma's gonna love it when I tell her about that. :)
The only things I can think of asking about tech I'm gonna hold on until I see the forms...and THEN I'll have questions :)
Thank you, Eva! Yes, it's a week out, but I'm sure it will help everyone either way....can't wait to see you and everyone else!

| | | Ok, so I look at the pic and beat myself up over the fact that I won't be able to be there...
Then I remember I'm an overweight, balding, male so it wouldn't matter anyway
I gotta say I love the print, absolutely gorgeous piece! Joe you've outdone yourself... "Flesh Fried in a pillar of fire saving the world. I got better." -Spike, from Angel

| | | Thanks for the info, Eva! I'll post this on the LJ group :)
I was going to start a thread for the Cuppa, but I guess we're commenting here. I almost cried when I saw it....Fairy Dawns hold a special place in my heart, and I couldn't be happier to see that gorgeous print. Thanks so much, Joe. "Nudity is fine. | | | hey Deathlynx, you could always dress up like Omar from Omar's secondhand blades The Golden Rule is "Do Unto Others As You Would Have Others Do Unto You" -- which works pretty well for everyone but masochists.

| | | Oh, Eva, I forgot, does that mean you won't be judging this year, or will there just be one extra judge than usual?

| | | Contest page updated. Sorry folks, I got in late last night.
And only took us 358 days since the photo was taken to get a picture of Amanda's win last year up there. This time, we'll see if we can get it in 357 days.
(Actually, if someone can just mail me the picture of the winner, I'll get it up as soon as I'm back from DragonCon. Or, if we have wifi in the hotel, I'll do it that Sunday. You know what? Fuck it. I'll take the picture and upload the shit. I need a good excuse to hang backstage anyway.)

| | | Grace: it was suggested to me that I should not judge this year. I laughed. ;) Seriously, I can't imagine not being part of the show. I work very hard to nurture it. I will be judging. & this is how big of a geek I am, I'm even gonna make forms for the judges, to make it easier for us. :)
Greg - nice work! I see the Lookalike Contest page has been updated & moved to the top of the page.
Anyone have the link to the Dawn lj community? They're probably a lot more current than the forum that's linked now. I should put a link to them on the page, instead. Also, someone please make sure this information is gettign to them!

Phew...I'm glad you stood your ground and insisted on being a part of it this year. It wouldn't be the same without you. "Nudity is fine. But, if everyone is naked, it's the costumes that rule the stage..." --Dita Von Teese

I think it opens at 2 pm on friday and closes at 11 am on monday. I may be off by an hour or so on each side, but that's about right.

| | | And now I wish we waited a year on the costumes. I think the mythbuster guy would have loved Nadia's and my wings from last year. Even if there was a mechanical failure just after we got offstage.

I second that. What did you DO, Joe? :)
I think that the Goddess just lured him right in. A few flutters of those pretty lashes and you can just 'say g'night, Gracie...'

OK! Dany has questions ....
#1: Divisions:
I notice you have Novice, Journeyman and Master on the reg sheet. How much are these divisions going to be important? The reason I ask is that if I go by the literal wording in the sheet, I'd put Novice. However, putting down Novice feels REALLY wrong, especially since I've won some major awards at some other costume competitions outside of the Dawn contest. It's a big matter of courtesy to me to not enter below my level, but at the same time, the wording presently, if I put down what would be appropriate, it would be a bit innacurate becuase I've never entered the contest before to win anything! :)
#2: Time Limits
The tech sheet mentions going over time limit, but doesn't specify what that time limit is presently. Can we get that? I know how much time I need shouldn't be above what is dictated, but to know what the 'official' time is will help a lot in the planning department.
Thank you!!! :D
